afford的用法:
afford的基本含義是“充足”,指“有足夠的錢買某物”“有足夠的財(cái)力或時(shí)間做某事”,也可以表示“經(jīng)受得起”; 引申可表示“提供”“給予”。
afford表示“有足夠的錢買某物”時(shí), afford可以接物作賓語,也可以接“to buy sth ”作賓語,前者可看作是省略to buy的句型,前者較后者更常用些。
afford表示“有足夠的財(cái)力或時(shí)間做某事”。afford的賓語可以是time(一般不省略),也可以是expense,還可以是time and money,但一般不單獨(dú)用money。
afford還可作“經(jīng)受得起”解,可用于財(cái)政狀況,健康狀況或者形象、聲譽(yù)等,其賓語一般為動(dòng)詞不定式或表示動(dòng)作的名詞,不接反身代詞作賓語。
afford作“提供”“給予”解時(shí),屬正式文體,指自然產(chǎn)生或法律上的后果,多接雙賓語,其后的直接賓語多為抽象名詞。其主語可以是人,也可以是物或事物,其間接賓語可轉(zhuǎn)化為介詞to的賓語。
