One day, my grandpa went fishing and let me come with him. He handed me the rod(魚竿), held my arms and taught me how to throw my line into the water. The sun warmed us. We sat and talked.
“I remember when I could sit here and watch the fish swimming in the water,” he said.
“Sometimes, they’d jump out and land beside me. I didn’t even need a fishing rod then. “We have to be patient,” he continued. “The fish may come or they may not. It doesn’t matter. This is a tale of two friends --- one is blind, the other has no arms. On their own, the two are “disabled”. But together, they are a powerful team that has changed part of their village in North China’s Hebei Province into a rich, green forest. Meet 53-year-old Jia Haixia and Jia Wenqi!
Their story began in 2000, when Haixia, who was already blind in his right eye, lost his left one after an illness. Wenqi lost his arms in an accident when he was just three. Neither could find a job, so the two decided to team up. They rented some poor land and began to plant trees. In return, the local officials paid them a small fee.
Haixia and Wenqi never imagined that they would end up creating an environmental paradise(樂園). Their forest now has over 10,000 trees, hundreds of birds and many other wild animals. Besides, it saves the village from river flooding during the rainy season.
When the friends work together, they focus on their strengths not their disabilities. Their day begins at 7 a.m. when the sightless Haixia carries Wenqi across the river to get to their worksite. Since they cannot afford to buy young trees to plant, the two use branches from existing trees. Haixia climbs to the tree-top and with Wenqi’s direction, selects the perfect branch. He then digs a hole and carefully plants it. Finally Wenqi waters the area.
Though hard-working, the men don’t make much money. But as Wenqi puts it, “We stand on our own feet, so the fruits of our work taste sweeter.”
Neither Haixia nor Wenqi cares about money. Together, they already have everything they need --- a perfect pair of eyes, two strong hands, and the best friendship in the world!

79. In paragraph 5, when Wenqi says “We stand on our own feet, so the fruits of our work taste sweeter”, he means that “ ”.
A. they hope to make the forest even better
B. the fruits from their trees are very sweet
C. they are proud not to depend on others
D. they are able to do any difficult work
80. What can we learn from this story?
A. Never give up and you will succeed.

Nowadays, the food that you buy comes from many different countries. Have a look in your fridge, cupboard, and fruit bowl and check the origins(來源) of the food. Perhaps there are apples from California, lamb from New Zealand, or potatoes from Egypt? You will probably be surprised how far food travels to get to your plate. This journey, from “field to plate”,is called “food miles”. A food mile is the distance that food travels from the farmer's field to the person who buys the food. Nowadays, food often travels thousands of miles to get to the consumer(消費(fèi)者). Why is this, and what is the influence of these long distances?
Traditionally, farmers sold their food in the local market, so the food didn't have to travel very far. The consumers also did not travel very far because they went to their local market to buy the food. This was a good system for farmers and consumers. However, there were some disadvantages. For example, consumers could only buy food that farmers produced locally. Besides, they could only get food that was in season. Now, because of modern technology, food comes from all over the world. We do not have to wait for spring or summer to buy strawberries or tomatoes. They are available in winter if we want.
Some countries have to import(進(jìn)口) most of their food. This is because they have difficult climates. The United Arab Emirates (UAE), for example, gets 85% of its food from other countries. Even food made in the UAE often uses imported materials.
What's wrong with “food miles”? Is this not a good way of increasing international trade? I believe these miles are worrying for a number of reasons. First of all, because food travels such long distances, we need more planes, lorries, and ships to move the food. This means we use more oil or petrol, so there is more pollution and more global(全球的) warming. In addition, food that travels a long way is not fresh and usually not very tasty. Tomatoes, for example, are picked early and stored for their long journeys. For this reason, they are usually tasteless when they get to the consumer. Local food has a better taste, and it also reduces the amount of global pollution. We need to buy more local food.
81. What is called “food miles” according to this passage?
A. The origins of the food. B. The effects of longs distances.
C. The journey from field to plate. D. The disadvantages of imported food.
82. The underlined word “available” in Paragraph 2 most probably means “ ”.
A. easy to get B. not busy
C. willing to talk D. Impossible to get
83. Some countries, like the United Arab Emirates, have to import most of their food because of .
A. long distances B. difficult climates
C. fresh and tasty food D. modern technology
84. The writer uses the LAST paragraph mostly to encourage readers to .
A. buy more local food B. increase international trade
C. travel long distances D. use imported materials
85. This passage is mainly about .
A. how local food travels from field to plate
B. what “food miles” is and its effects
C. how some countries import their food
D. where different kinds of food come from

Body language is one of the most powerful means of communication. 106______________
People around the world show all kinds of feelings, wishes and attitudes that they might never speak aloud.
The most universal facial expression is the smile. People usually smile to show happiness and make people feel comfortable. But sometimes it does not always mean that we are truly happy, however. Smiles around the world can be false, hiding other feelings like anger, fear or worry. 107______________ However, the general purpose of smiling is to show good feelings.
From the time we are babies,we show unhappiness or anger by frowning. 108______________ Making a fist and shaking it almost always means that someone is angry and threatening another person.
There are many ways around the world to show agreement, but nodding the head up and down is used for agreement almost worldwide. 109______________
How about showing that I am bored?Looking away from people will make me appear to be uninterested. However,if I turn toward and look at someone or something, people from almost every culture will think that I am interested. If I roll my eyes and turn my head away,I most likely do not believe what I am hearing or do not like it.
Being respectful to people is subjective(主觀的,個(gè)人的),based on each culture, but in general it is probably not a good idea to give a hug to a boss or teacher. 110_____________
With so many cultural differences between people,it is great to have some similarities in body language. We can often be wrong about each other,so it is an amazing thing that we understand each other as well as we do!
