兒童雙語寓言：禪師和男孩
一位父親為兒子擔(dān)心。兒子16歲了，卻沒有一點(diǎn)勇氣。于是，父親決定去拜訪一位禪師，請(qǐng)他訓(xùn)練兒子。
禪師對(duì)男孩的父親說：“你應(yīng)該讓他單獨(dú)留在這里。不出3個(gè)月，我要讓他成為一個(gè)真正的男子漢。不過，在這段時(shí)間，你不能來見他。”
3個(gè)月后，男孩的父親又來見禪師。禪師安排這個(gè)男孩和一位經(jīng)驗(yàn)豐富的拳師進(jìn)行拳擊比賽。拳師每次一出手，男孩就倒在地上，但男孩又馬上站起來;每次將他擊倒，他就又站起來。幾個(gè)回合后，禪師問道：“你認(rèn)為自己的孩子怎么樣?”
“真丟人!”男孩的父親說，“我絕沒想到他這樣不堪一擊。我不需要他再留在這里了。”
“很遺憾，你只看到了這一點(diǎn)。難道你沒看到他每次倒下后并沒有哭泣，而是重新站起來了嗎?這才是你想要他擁有的那種勇氣。”
A father was worried about his son, who was sixteen years old but had no courage at all. So the father decided to call on a Buddhist monk to train his boy.
The Buddhist monk said to the boy's father, "You should leave your son alone here. I'll make him into a real man within three months. However, you can't come to see him during this period."
Three months later, the boy's father returned. The Buddhist monk arranged a boxing match between the boy and an experienced boxer. Each time the fighter struck the boy, he fell down, but at once the boy stood up; and each time a punch knocked him down, the boy stood up again. Several times later, the Buddhist monk asked, "What do you think of your child?"
"What a shame!" the boy's father said. "I never thought he would be so easily knocked down. I needn't have him left here any longer."
"I'm sorry that that's all you see. Don't you see that each time he falls down, he stands up again instead of crying? That's the kind of courage you wanted him to have."
兒童雙語寓言：老鼠和公牛
A mouse once took a bite out of a bull's tail as he lay dozing. The bull jumped up in a rage and, with his head low to the ground, chased the mouse right across the yard. The mouse was too quick for him, however, and slipped easily into a hole in the wall.
有一次，公牛躺著打盹，一只老鼠咬了他的尾巴。公牛怒氣沖沖地跳起來，低著頭追老鼠，一直追過院子。然而，老鼠跑得比他快多了，從容地鉆到墻洞里去了。
The bull charged the wall furiously again and again, but although he bruised his head and chipped his horns, the mouse stayed safely inside his hole. After a time the bull gave up and sank down to rest again.
公牛一次又一次地猛撞墻壁，盡管頭撞腫了，角撞裂了，老鼠卻安然待在洞里。過了一會(huì)兒，公牛不撞了，倒下歇著。
As soon as the bull was asleep, the little mouse crept to the mouth of the hole, pattered across the yard, bit the bull again -- this time on the nose -- and rushed back to safety. As the bull roared helplessly the mouse squeaked:

又過了一會(huì)，洪水已經(jīng)把整個(gè)教堂淹沒了，神父只好緊緊抓住教堂頂端的十字架。一架直升飛機(jī)緩緩的飛過來，飛行員丟下了繩梯之后大叫：“神父，快上來，這是最后的機(jī)會(huì)了，我們可不愿意見到你被洪水淹死!!”神父還是意志堅(jiān)定的說：“不，我要守住我的教堂!上帝一定會(huì)來救我的。你還是先去救別人好了。上帝會(huì)與我共在的!!”

In fact, too many obstacles in life, chiefly because of excessive stubbornness and ignorance caused by ignorance.
其實(shí)，生命中太多的障礙，皆是由于過度的固執(zhí)與愚昧的無知所造成。在別人伸出援手之際，別忘了，惟有我們自己也愿意伸出手來，人家才能幫得上忙的!
