I got my very first glimpse into law by watching my father, my hero, a Ph.D. of law and now the Chinese ambassador to Barbados. I have been inspired by his work as an international lawyer and a career diplomat while growing up. For many years, I have been preparing myself through academic and extra-curriculum activities, hoping that I can make a difference for the world. I believe pursuing the Master’s degree in Law at Cornell University will assist me in striving towards the goal.
With my dedication and my parent’s unconditional support, I successfully entered the …… University, one of the top law schools in China for legal education. I have explored a wide range of different law theories in the Civil Law field and had an opportunity to work on logical writing. It has been these years of study at …… University that has enlightened me and laid a solid foundation for my legal career.
In addition, I have also participated in various extra-curricular activities. As class monitor, the head of the Information Department in Student Committee, and the head of Research Department in our college, I am entrusted with many responsibilities. My leadership skills and organizational abilities have been greatly enhanced. Through various volunteer experiences, I have had more opportunities to help the under-privileged. All of these extracurricular activities are integral parts of a multiple legal education and have contributed to my professional growth.
Amid my strenuous study, I had an opportunity to participate in the American Legal System Study Program summer of my sophomore year and I was exposed to the great American culture. I engaged in an internship program at Michigan District Court, where I followed Judge ……. It was a great opportunity for me to see how the courts operate in the United States. The differences between the US and China legal systems provoked my curiosity. I was eager to explore how to ensure substantive justice in a case while following due process and how to apply precedents to different situations. I went on my second exchange study-abroad program to ……University fall of 2012 and participated in their LL.M. program. During this exchange study period, the issue of how to balance crime control and protection of human rights perplexed me. From then on, the thought of completing the LL.M. program in Cornell Law School, a school with unsurpassed legal education, has propelled me.
As a part of my degree, I interned at different legal departments. I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to intern at the Beijing office of ……. By involving myself in cases such as security offerings by Chinese corporate issuers and US security class actions against China-based companies listed on US stock exchanges, I became more aware of how a practicing lawyer gets involved in international trades. I researched on whether some foreign statutes are effective and I participated in legal work and preliminary drafting of research reports. It was the first time that I felt like I was making a contribution to society as lawyer. I sought for other internship opportunities to elevate my professionalism after my experience at ……. At Beijing …..People's Court, I learned the trial procedures in the Chinese court. Through drafting, imputing and proofreading legal documents, I have become more familiarized with the writing process and became more able to write with greater accuracy. The internship at Beijing …… Law Firm brought my overall abilities into full practice. From filing a marriage case, collecting evidences, putting it on trial to settling it, I participated in the whole process. With my sight set on more challenges, I would like to deepen my legal skills and be equipped for international experiences. To that end, pursuing an LL.M. at Cornell Law School seems to be the best option.
I believe that pursuing an LL.M. at Cornell University would provide me with the necessary foundation to understand the nuances and intricacies of different legal systems, and help me add an international perspective. I am most interested in taking courses at Cornell Law School such as International and Foreign Legal Research and International Law and Foreign Direct Investment, as well as being an active member of the Briggs Society of International Law. As one of the Ivy League universities, Cornell University combines outstanding, preeminent faculty with a diverse and talented student body. I would like to attend various special lectures and activities Cornell Law School offers to supplement the core curriculum. 一、國(guó)家公派留學(xué)申請(qǐng)條件
博士研究生申請(qǐng)時(shí)年齡不超過(guò)35歲具有碩士學(xué)位，或申請(qǐng)時(shí)為應(yīng)屆本科畢業(yè)生，或在讀碩士生(含應(yīng)屆碩士畢業(yè)生)或博士一年級(jí)學(xué)生。
碩士研究生申請(qǐng)時(shí)年齡不超過(guò)30歲，具有學(xué)士學(xué)位或優(yōu)秀本科畢業(yè)生，身體健康，表現(xiàn)良好。
訪問(wèn)學(xué)者(含博士后研究)申請(qǐng)時(shí)年齡不超過(guò)50歲，應(yīng)為高等學(xué)校、企事業(yè)單位、各級(jí)行政單位、科研單位的正式工作人員。
高級(jí)研究學(xué)者申請(qǐng)時(shí)年齡不超過(guò)55歲，除應(yīng)符合訪問(wèn)學(xué)者的申請(qǐng)條件外，還需具備以下條件之一：
①國(guó)家重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室、教育部重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室、國(guó)家工程(技術(shù))研究中心骨干;
②“長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者”特聘教授或教育部當(dāng)年確定支持的創(chuàng)新團(tuán)隊(duì)中的骨干或“新世紀(jì)優(yōu)秀人才計(jì)劃”入選者及其他國(guó)家級(jí)人才計(jì)劃入選者;
③教育部批準(zhǔn)的國(guó)家重點(diǎn)學(xué)科學(xué)術(shù)帶頭人;
④中央國(guó)家機(jī)關(guān)、地方行政管理部門、國(guó)有大中型企業(yè)高級(jí)行政管理人員。
其中教學(xué)科研人員應(yīng)為教授、博士生導(dǎo)師;中央國(guó)家機(jī)關(guān)、地方行政管理部門管理人員應(yīng)具有副司局級(jí)(包括副司局級(jí))以上行政職務(wù);國(guó)有大中型企業(yè)管理人員應(yīng)具有相當(dāng)于副司局級(jí)(包括副司局級(jí))以上行政職務(wù)。
申請(qǐng)人應(yīng)為高等學(xué)校、企業(yè)事業(yè)單位、行政機(jī)關(guān)、科研機(jī)構(gòu)的正式工作人員和在校優(yōu)秀學(xué)生，且符合下列基本條件：
1、熱愛(ài)祖國(guó)，熱愛(ài)社會(huì)主義，具有良好的政治和業(yè)務(wù)素質(zhì)，無(wú)違法違紀(jì)記錄，在工作、學(xué)習(xí)中表現(xiàn)突出，學(xué)成后回國(guó)為祖國(guó)建設(shè)服務(wù);
2、具有良好專業(yè)基礎(chǔ)和發(fā)展?jié)摿?，外語(yǔ)水平達(dá)到《國(guó)家留學(xué)基金資助出國(guó)留學(xué)外語(yǔ)條件》規(guī)定的要求;
3、身心健康;
4、符合有關(guān)獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金項(xiàng)目選拔簡(jiǎn)章的具體要求;
5、曾經(jīng)享受國(guó)家留學(xué)基金資助出國(guó)留學(xué)的人員，回國(guó)后工作一般須滿五年方可再次申請(qǐng)。
二、如何申請(qǐng)
1、國(guó)家留學(xué)基金全額資助項(xiàng)目、與有關(guān)國(guó)家互換獎(jiǎng)學(xué)金項(xiàng)目按照“個(gè)人申請(qǐng)，專家評(píng)審，平等競(jìng)爭(zhēng)，擇優(yōu)錄取”的方式進(jìn)行選拔，并由留學(xué)基金委委托有關(guān)國(guó)家留學(xué)基金申請(qǐng)受理機(jī)構(gòu)(以下簡(jiǎn)稱受理機(jī)構(gòu))受理，留學(xué)基金委不直接受理個(gè)人及單位的申請(qǐng)。受理機(jī)構(gòu)負(fù)責(zé)接受咨詢、受理申請(qǐng)材料及對(duì)材料進(jìn)行審核等事宜。各受理機(jī)構(gòu)的地址及電話請(qǐng)上_網(wǎng)()查詢。
2、專項(xiàng)出國(guó)留學(xué)項(xiàng)目及有關(guān)合作項(xiàng)目按照“個(gè)人申請(qǐng)，單位推薦，專家評(píng)審，平等競(jìng)爭(zhēng)，擇優(yōu)錄取”的方式進(jìn)行選拔，由各有關(guān)單位按項(xiàng)目要求統(tǒng)一組織申報(bào)并提交申請(qǐng)材料，留學(xué)基金委不受理個(gè)人申請(qǐng)。部分項(xiàng)目如高校基礎(chǔ)課任課教師出國(guó)研修項(xiàng)目、俄羅斯藝術(shù)類項(xiàng)目等，留學(xué)基金委將委托有關(guān)受理機(jī)構(gòu)受理申請(qǐng)(具體項(xiàng)目請(qǐng)查閱附件五《通過(guò)受理機(jī)構(gòu)申請(qǐng)項(xiàng)目一覽表》)。其他項(xiàng)目由留學(xué)基金委按項(xiàng)目要求直接受理申請(qǐng)。部分項(xiàng)目的遴選事宜，留學(xué)基金委將及時(shí)在_網(wǎng)上公布并將遴選通知發(fā)至有關(guān)單位，在此之前暫不受理申請(qǐng)。具體申請(qǐng)辦法請(qǐng)查閱《20_年國(guó)家留學(xué)基金資助出國(guó)留學(xué)項(xiàng)目指南》。
三、公費(fèi)出國(guó)留學(xué)申請(qǐng)材料
1、《國(guó)家留學(xué)基金管理委員會(huì)出國(guó)留學(xué)申請(qǐng)表》(20_年版);
2、本人所在單位出具的由單位負(fù)責(zé)人簽發(fā)和蓋有單位公章的《單位推薦意見(jiàn)表》;
3、兩份由具有正高級(jí)專業(yè)技術(shù)職務(wù)專家、學(xué)者出具并署名的推薦信(固定樣式);
4、工作簡(jiǎn)歷;
5、獲獎(jiǎng)證書(shū)復(fù)印件(若無(wú)可不附);
6、國(guó)外單位邀請(qǐng)信復(fù)印件(若無(wú)可不附);
7、身份證、職稱證書(shū)、最高學(xué)歷、學(xué)位證書(shū)復(fù)印件;
8、外語(yǔ)水平證明復(fù)印件(若無(wú)可不附);
9、體檢表原件;
10、有關(guān)項(xiàng)目要求提交的其他材料;
11、《出國(guó)留學(xué)專家評(píng)審意見(jiàn)表》;
12、《CSC出國(guó)留學(xué)基金申請(qǐng)人員信息一覽表》?！秶?guó)家留學(xué)基金管理委員會(huì)出國(guó)留學(xué)申請(qǐng)表》、《單位推薦意見(jiàn)表》、《專家推薦信(附件2-1)》、《專家推薦信(附件2-2)》、《出國(guó)留學(xué)專家評(píng)審意見(jiàn)表》、《CSC出國(guó)留學(xué)基金申請(qǐng)人員信息一覽表》等請(qǐng)從_網(wǎng)下載(所有表格均為WORD格式)，并按規(guī)定填寫(xiě)(具體請(qǐng)見(jiàn)附件四《關(guān)于準(zhǔn)備國(guó)家留學(xué)基金資助出國(guó)留學(xué)申請(qǐng)材料的說(shuō)明》)。申請(qǐng)者須向受理機(jī)構(gòu)提交申請(qǐng)材料一式五份(原件一份，復(fù)印件四份)。提交材料時(shí)，須按規(guī)定交納報(bào)名費(fèi)和評(píng)審費(fèi)共計(jì)人民幣500元/人。
出國(guó)留學(xué)省錢方法介紹
一、外出
1、要出去做某件事時(shí)，提早規(guī)劃好時(shí)間行程，不要趕火車遲到，出現(xiàn)退票扣手續(xù)費(fèi)的情形，也不能在某處停留過(guò)久，以至于趕不上最后一趟地鐵，只好打的，然而晚上坐車價(jià)格上不劃算外，更重要的是，也不安全。所以，盡量在白天出門，做事干脆一些，拖沓的習(xí)慣是不可取的。
2、購(gòu)置一輛二手單車是必要的，花十幾分鐘就可以滿足日常需求，比如買菜、逛書(shū)店等，一開(kāi)始買車沒(méi)必要很貴，質(zhì)量中等就好，等熟悉街道，對(duì)基礎(chǔ)的交通法律法規(guī)有了清晰認(rèn)知后，再?zèng)Q定是否重新買好一點(diǎn)的山地自行車。
3、經(jīng)常去的超市和大商場(chǎng)，記得詢問(wèn)會(huì)員卡辦理流程，因?yàn)橘?gòu)物頻率很高，能積攢不少的積分，到推出活動(dòng)的時(shí)候，能享受到很多優(yōu)惠福利。
4、帶好學(xué)生證件，太管用了，坐汽車、火車、飛機(jī)等各類工具，幾乎都有減免。
5、蔬菜瓜果去批發(fā)市場(chǎng)買，本身它的全國(guó)均價(jià)較高，肉類則比較便宜。
二、擇校
做一個(gè)準(zhǔn)確的定位，結(jié)合校園氛圍、師資水準(zhǔn)、周邊環(huán)境等，綜合判斷，還要考慮到大中小城市的消費(fèi)情況，以及未來(lái)的發(fā)展空間是否有上升潛能。
除了看學(xué)校實(shí)力，還要選擇好合適的專業(yè)，不同科目的收費(fèi)標(biāo)準(zhǔn)會(huì)有差異。
三、住宿
剛?cè)サ牡谝粚W(xué)期，是和別人合租，兩人或三人為宜，同班或同系是最為恰當(dāng)?shù)?，因?yàn)樯系恼n程基本相同，能保持一致的作息規(guī)律，不會(huì)影響對(duì)方的睡眠質(zhì)量。
周圍的事物大多新奇，和朋友待在一起，能減緩思鄉(xiāng)心切，不會(huì)覺(jué)得孤單，并且能彼此鼓勵(lì)，共同進(jìn)步、成長(zhǎng)成熟。
