Nowadays various kinds of news coverage on food contamination has been heard of. People arein the fear ofthe milk food contamination, the poisonous fish, the pesticide-left vegetablesand so on. Some people blame it for those companies’ lack of responsibilities, and otherscriticize the government. In my opinion, as the governor and supervisor of the food safety, government has unshirkable responsibility for food contamination.
On the one hand, the governmental institutions don’t perform their duty of supervision well.Citizens paytaxes for the service of the government. So the latter has the responsibility for thefood safety of everyperson. They should develop stringent standards for food safety, andstrictly examine the products of every company on schedule. But if they are serious about theirduty, how can so many cases come out? It is because of their act of omission that thecondemned food enters the market. The customers are disappointed again and again, andthey will not trust the quality supervision departments any more. The governmentshouldsquarely face the problem and take a down-to-earth attitude toward it.
On the other hand, the government didn’t take decisive and effective actions to thoroughlyrectify and regulate the order of the food market. Most of the food contamination cases aretreated after the media coverage that those cases are not seized by the governmentalinstitutions. It is believed that the examining techniques and methods of government areadvanced, but they are blind to the illegal act. If the media and the public didn’t putpressure on them, they would go on escaping from the reality. What’s more, the related lawshould be enforced. The criminal knew clearly the harm of the contaminated food to people, but hestill did the misdeeds. Because the punishment for food contamination is not serious, and the profits are much higher than producing standard goods, this kind of crime is repeated. There is an urgent need to strengthen food monitoring and intensify legislation and itsimplementation.
Food is the first necessity of people. The government has the responsibility to protect everycitizen and regulate the food market. Throughout the country we must resolutely implementthe following principles: the law must be observed, law enforcement must be strict, law-breakers must be dealt with accordingly and all persons are equal before the law. Only in thisway can the government perform its duty and people enjoy the food safely.
As we all know, nowadays many novels are adapted into films. Some readers severelycriticize those films, for the adaptation leaves no room for the audience toimagine;meanwhile other audience find it acceptable. As far as I am concerned, theoriginal novels and adapted version in films can go hand in hand in harmony for the boomand flowering of the literature. The two do not have to be placed in such a binary opposition.
I think they can promote each other and the relationship should be beneficial.First ofall, the original novels are the important part of the literature. They are presented in theform of pages and books. They are also the basic carrier of human culture. For thousands ofyears, people start their education by reading books and many of them are concerned withliterature. We have been long used to reading literature through books. Therefore, theoriginal novels are the basis of human knowledge.
Secondly, the technological advancement is on the move at an unprecedented speed in thepresent society.Besides, our society has been more and more commercial and realistic andmaterial.Because of all this,a lot of the original novels can be adapted into films for theconsumers. The adapted films are part of the fast-food culture,in which people are impatientto read the novels in the original. The audience want to save more time to get more from thebooks. As a result, the adapted films have satisfied their appetites. As we can read from theentertainment news,a lot of novels in England and American have been adapted into filmsvery successfully. And they are also very popular among the audience.I think in this way theoriginal novels and the adapted films become one.
Finally, the integration of the two is of great significance for the readers and the illiteratepeople. The literate students can comment on the adapted films and maybe the adaptedfilms can help them better understand the novels they have read. For the illiteratepeople, the adapted films can help them learn about the novels that they have not read.
To sum up,the original novels and adapted version in films can complement each other verywell. They needto be integrated for the boom of the human culture.
The Internet slang words have become very popular among young people. They use termssuch as “CU” for “see you” and “PK” for “competition”. But now the Internet slang terms areforbidden in official documents, news broadcasts and textbooks in Shanghai. The public holddifferent views on the regulation. Some people think such kind of terms will rock ourtraditional language. But others say the terms are vivid and accurate. There is no need toban them. As far as I am concerned, we should not simply ban the Internet slang terms, butdistinguish the good from the bad, and guide people to use the language appropriately.
Some people hold the negative opinion about the Internet slang terms. They think the youngpeople are in the critical period of learning the knowledge and forming their values. For them,it is very important to use the standard language. In the virtue world, they use language attheir will. If such kind of language is used in news and formal documents, it will do harm to thehealthy development of language, even to our tradition and culture.
Their worries are justified, but the language has its own regulations as it is developing. As aflexible language, the Internet language has the feature of newness simplicity and humor, which can help to make thetext vivid and interesting. This kind of language is with the featureof the times. In the early 20th century, Hu Shi and Chen Duxiu advocated to use the classicalChinese. At first, it was criticized seriously. But the reality proved the worth of themovement. In the development of language, there will be new words and terms, some ofwhich are living, and some are not.
The good Internet slang terms will help our language become better and richer. As for somenot-so-good ones, they will be washed out naturally. Some Internet slang terms have the sameform with the characters, and the meaning they have are relatively stable. So they are verylikely to enter the classical Chinese. So we should not factitiously ban the new-born words andterms in news and documents. The fittest will survive. In conclusion, we should not ban theInternet slang terms in news and official documents. If the vigorousInternet slang terms canstand the test of time, they will be accepted at last.
