Gong Zhiqiao obtained a piece of fine Chinese tung wood and made a qin (stringed musicalinstrument) out of it.

When installed with strings and plucked, it gave out a wonderful sound, harmonious andpleasing to the ear.

so he presented it to the Tai Chang Si Qing (a high official in charge of rites and protocol of theancestral temple) who had it examined by an imperial musician, but the musician disdained tohave a look at it.

洛陽(yáng),有一位平民叫申屠敦,他從長(zhǎng)安深川得到了一尊出土的漢鼎。
On the tripod, the crisscross designs of clouds and ancient hornless dragons were bright andclear.

Lu Sheng, his neighbour on the west,took a fancy to it instantly.

The influential official asked him to fetch it at once. After he examined it for a long time, hesaid:

“This one is not genuine.”
“這尊不是真的!”
The guests also chimed in and said one after another:“It is indeed not genuine.”

Shentu Dun was quite perturbed and argued on just grounds,but the others rallied together toattack him,ridiculed and even insulted him, so he said no more.
